In the Civil War, there were over 1000 different battles between the Union armies of the North and the Confederate armies from the South. There were a handful of battles, however that stand out for their tragic brutality and their impact on the war's outcome. Your job is to research one of these battles and become an expert on it, then display what you learned in one of the assignment choices below.

Choose one of the following battles to research: 

1. The Battle of Bull Run (The first battle)

2. The Battle of Shiloh

3. The Battle of Antietam

4. The Battle of Fredericksburg

5. The Battle of Chancellorsville

6. The Battle of Gettysburg

Choose one of the following assignment choices:

1. Battle Poster: Create a poster that teaches about the battle. When did it take place? Who fought? Who were the generals in charge? How many fought? Casualties? Include a short description of the battle. Include quotes from eyewitnesses. Include a short paragraph that discusses why this battle was so important to the outcome of the war. Include any images of the battle and its participants.



2. Power Point Presentation: Create a presentation that teaches about the battle. When did it take place? Who fought? Who were the generals in charge? How many fought? Casualties? Include a short description of the battle. Include quotes from eyewitnesses. Include a short paragraph that discusses why this battle was so important to the outcome of the war. Include any images of the battle and its participants.


3. Letter from a soldier / with a mini poster: Write a letter to a relative describing what happened during the a particular battle. How did you feel? What happened? Give examples of events. Include a mini poster illustrating your letter.


Requirements:

1. No pencil (except colored pencils)

2. Poster needs to be colorful and quality.

3. Quality: Spelling, Neat, Best Effort

4. In Your Own Words - Very Important! - Be sure to write about the battle in your own words. Do not cut and paste from the Internet. That is plagiarism (cheating). Even changing a word here or there is still copying. Research the battle, then put the information away and write about it from what you remember. You need to make sure that your paragraphs are using words that an eighth grader would use. Tip: If you don't know what the word means, don't use it.
